Life continues to be busy in Room 106! The students are doing well working towards Term 2 IEP goals. Last month, we enjoyed being part of the excitement surrounding the Haiti jar fundraiser and some of our students even won jars! In January we also learned a bit of Olympic history and worked with our Grade 7 and 8 leadership groups to prepare flags and signs for our designated countries. The Quaker Village Olympic parade and opening ceremonies held on Friday February 5th were a great success. The MAC has set a goal to read 100 books by Earth Day - April 22, 2010. If we do so, Scholastic will make a donation to help save 100sq. km of Canada's Boreal Forest. If you read books at home to your children, or they read to you, please let us know the numbers and we will add them to our chart. Our day cycle will be changing once again. When we return from Family Day we will be adjusting the cycle. Please see the Time Table below. Just a reminder about bussing. Please let your driver know if your child will not be on the bus. If you are not able to give advance notice the following are the numbers you will need: Louise: 19 Stock 1-800-889-9491 Carolyn: 729 First Student Canada 1-800- 263-7987 Thanks so much for you cooperation with this!

Thanks so much to the Community Helpers who are doing so well with remembering to come for their shifts! Many Helpers have already received their driver's licence! Way to go guys! Community Helpers (CH's) are an important part of the MAC program. All of us look forward to students from the rest of the school forming friendships with students in the MAC. As a CH you may be pushing students around the halls in wheel chairs, playing with students outside, or playing with students in the MAC room. If you are in Grade three or up, you are welcome to join the team. CH's collect MAC (Multiple Acts of Caring) beads for each shift they complete. There are special beads for completing 25, 50, 75, and 100 shifts. Bring your beads to Recognition Assemblies, where you can let the school see how many shifts you have completed. After each shift CH's fill out a Mustang Merit. Also, if your name is posted outside the classroom, or it is your birthday you are invited to pick a prize from Mrs. Allen's prize box. Finally, sometimes at our meetings we have treats! Watch the Community Helper Hot Spot portion of Mrs. Allen's web page for CH updates. Updates will also be posted outside the MAC room and on the announcements.
